QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about our Wayuu mochila bags, sizing, shipping, care, and how we talk about authenticity.

Authenticity and materials

Are Una Hebra bags authentic Wayuu bags?

Yes. Una Hebra sells handwoven Wayuu mochila bags from La Guajira, Colombia, with a focus on single-thread technique. We describe authenticity through origin and technique, not through a marketing seal.

Does acrylic yarn mean a Wayuu bag is not authentic?

No. Yarn fiber alone does not determine Wayuu authorship or craft origin. Contemporary Wayuu weaving may use commercial acrylic yarn. Origin, authorship, and technique are more useful questions than fiber myths.

What is single-thread versus two-thread weaving?

They are different Wayuu weaving constructions. Una Hebra focuses on the denser single-thread technique, while recognizing that two-thread work is also part of contemporary Wayuu production.

Prices, measurements and capacity

How much do Una Hebra bags cost?

Current bag prices range from $165 to $215 USD: Mayapo $165, Dibulla $175, Palomino $185, Cabo $195, and Uribia $215. The Jepira bracelet is $25.

What are the standard bag measurements?

The standard size is 22 cm (8.7 in) high and 28 cm (11 in) in diameter. The strap is about 106 cm (42 in) long and 5 cm (2 in) wide. Because each piece is handmade, allow 1–2 cm of variation.

What fits in an Una Hebra mochila?

The everyday size holds a phone, wallet, keys, sunglasses, compact bottle, and a small book. It is a shoulder or crossbody bag rather than a large travel tote.

Is the strap long enough for crossbody wear?

At about 106 cm (42 in), the strap works crossbody or over the shoulder for most adults. The exact drop depends on your body and how the bag sits when filled.

Shipping, care and returns

How much is shipping and how long does it take?

Most bags ship worldwide with DHL for a flat $30 and typically arrive about three business days after dispatch. Customs, weekends, or destination conditions can add time.

Which products have free worldwide shipping?

Uribia ($215) and the Jepira bracelet ($25) include free worldwide shipping. Other bag models use the standard $30 DHL rate unless their product page states otherwise.

Could customs or duties apply?

Yes. Import duties, taxes, or carrier handling charges can depend on the destination and are separate from Una Hebra’s shipping rate unless checkout explicitly says they are prepaid.

How should I care for a Wayuu bag?

Spot clean first. When necessary, wash gently by hand in cool water with mild soap, reshape, and lay flat to dry. Avoid bleach, high heat, and aggressive machine cycles.

What is the return policy?

Unused standard pieces may be returned within 14 days of delivery, subject to the conditions on our Returns page. Contact us before sending a return so we can help with the process.
